What Is Wake On Lan Dell Inspiron 1545

It is supposed to mean you can wake up - ie turn on the laptop by sending a special signal through the ethernet/ network cable.
I have not been able to get this working on my Dell 1545- you must turn it on in the bios but also turn it on in device manager on the card itself.
To use wake on lan you just need a program (running on another pc) that can send a ' Magic Packet' a signal that can wake up the laptop. However as I said I have not been able to get this working although all the lenovo pcs I have do wake up.
