Need Help.

I have SM-55c for about 12 years. Using it predominantly to make bread dough. Suddenly lost power. I can stop hook movement by hand, while other parts (for attachments) keep moving. Any idea where's the problem? Thank you for your help.

If your Cuisinart SM-55 stand mixer suddenly lost power and you're able to stop the hook movement by hand while other parts keep moving, there may be an issue with the motor or the transmission. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem:
  • Check the power source: Make sure that your stand mixer is plugged in to a functioning outlet and that the circuit breaker hasn't tripped.
  • Inspect the motor and transmission: If the power source isn't the problem, you may need to inspect the motor and transmission. First, remove the mixing bowl and any attachments from the mixer. Then, turn the mixer on and see if the motor is running. If the motor is running but the hook isn't turning, there may be an issue with the transmission.
  • Check the gears: If you suspect that there's an issue with the transmission, you can remove the transmission cover and inspect the gears for damage or wear. If you see any damage, you may need to replace the gears or the transmission.

Check the power source: Make sure that your mixer is plugged into a functioning power outlet. If it is, try plugging in another appliance to confirm that the outlet is working properly.

Check the fuse: The Cuisinart SM-55 has a built-in fuse that can blow if the mixer is overloaded or if there is a power surge. To check the fuse, unplug the mixer and remove the fuse cover on the bottom of the unit. If the fuse is blown, replace it with a new one of the same rating.

Check the speed control: If the mixer is not turning on or is not running at the correct speed, it could be due to a faulty speed control. Try turning the speed control knob back and forth a few times to see if it is sticking. If it is, you may need to replace the speed control switch.

Check the motor: If the mixer is making strange noises or is not turning on, it could be due to a faulty motor. You may need to take the mixer apart to check the motor and look for any signs of damage or wear.

Contact Cuisinart customer service: If none of these troubleshooting tips work, you may need to contact Cuisinart customer service for further assistance. They may be able to help you diagnose the problem or provide repair options.
