Printer Performing Another Function

My husband just purchase the Caon PIXMA MX472 Fax printerAll in one unit and we have set it up as default. We installed via the cd that came with and it said it was ready to use. When we try and print off something we keep getting the message Printer is performing another function yet it does say printer status is ready. This printer isnt even a day old... Can you please contact via email to correct this as we have tried everything possible ... checked all chords ... pluggged and unplugged and much more ... would appreciate your assistance asap Thank you in advance ... we await your reply
