Replacing Toner

How can I easily tell if the toner is getting low for a Brother HL-4050CDN printer? I only found out when it was suddenly empty and wouldn't print anymore. I'd like to know when it's getting low BEFORE it runs out so that I can buy a replacement.

It is very easy to change the toner on this printer. You can check out page 11 on the Quick Step Manual for this printer to see step by step instructions with pictures. Here is the Manual:
