Hello my name is Jeffrey and I work for ASUS Customer Loyalty Team. Can you tell me which model you are looking at. I was looking at the U32U-DS31 and seems that this laptop may not fit your needs to use for Auto cad 2012. This hard drive runs at 5400rpm but the requirements for this software is 7200rpm. However you can always install an SSD and the laptop will suite your needs. It comes with a 6GB of RAM and the requirements are 4GB. Although this is a great notebook for web-browsing and simple word processing, 3DS Max takes up a great deal of proccessing power, and the notebook is not built for heavy computing. You might be able to run it, but it would be extremely slow / cause rendering issues. If you plan on running 3DS Max and doing other processor-intensive tasks, I would go with another notebook. That being said, from a price/value perspective, this is a great notebook.
