My Acer E1-531 Wont Charge Or Switch On

bought my laptop 9 months ago and it has never given me problems until today when I switched it off due to low battery. After about 6 hours I plugged in the charger but it was isn't charging and the charging symbol that usually flashes when its plugged in was not turned on. When I turn it on the blue light indicator on the the power button just flashes thrice and nothing happens. Is my battery old or is the problem with the charger or my laptop is dead. Please help me my school work is stored in my laptop and I have exams.
