Purchase Was 4-2-10; Problems Just Occurring. Recourse?

I purchase 3 sterling silver bangles on 4/2/10. After continuous wearing these bangles are clearly not silver. Because the time frame for lodging a complaint as passed, I have no way to pursue this for a refund. I did get details from Pay-pal and sent an email to the buyer requesting a refund. But I am blocked from the "eBay buyer protection" because the item is no longer listed. I am unable to talk to a live person and find myself going in circles. I can't even ask a question because the item is no longer listed. Perhaps the Seller is still using eBay - I have no way of finding out and getting in touch with them via eBay. I was able to get some information about the transaction from my Pay-palaccount to write to the Seller but without the strength and power from eBay and Pay-pal to provide leverage, I'm stuck with dirty smudge rings around my wrist wear those "Sterling Silver" bangles has been riding. Suggestions? Surely there must be a way to pursue the matter. Some flaws or problems don't show up within 45 days as in my case. It has taken 2 months for the "sterling silver" to rub off. This is the second time this has happened to me and I wonder if eBay is really a safe purchasing tool.
