Floppy Drive Doesn't Work, Except The Light.

The floppy disk drive light comes on (and stays on) when the keyboard is turned on, but the drive doesn't function.  I have attempted to replace the drive with a generic floppy drive that I pulled out of an old computer to no avail.  I'm not sure if this is even the correct approach, and didn't want to spend money on a new drive if this is the wrong way to go. I was afraid maybe there's a short in the keyboard, or some such business.  The floppy drive, however, is the only non-functioning part of the keyboard.
