Yamaha Dom 30 'unformat Disk' Error

I have an old Yamaha DOM 30. Not used in years. Tried to start up. No matter what disk is inserted, the screen reads "Unformat Disk!" and will not "play" the disk. The disks are all original Yamaha DOM 30 disks (Disk Orchestra Collection) and have not been modified. How can we get the DOM 30 to read the disks? Thank you!

I think your disc drive requires cleaning. If you can obtain a cleaning disc and use that it may at some point read the discs. However if they are standard floppy disks have they been stored correctly as they will deteriorate over time if not stored in an antistatic bag or case.

I have attached a link to the user guide. One thing you can try is to put the disc into a PC with a floppy drive, if you can find one, or an older laptop that has a floppy drive fitted and see if the disk is readable. If it uses standard formatting it should be readable. If it says the disk is not formatted then I would advise against formatting as any data will be lost. It could be a unique format which would require investigation to resolve.
