My Menstral Cycle

i have an irregular period, and for the past two months i have been having it on time. my fiancee and i are trying for a baby, how can i be sure that after years of an irregular period my ovulation isnt messed up.? also, how can i track my ovulation and be sure im ovulating normally, i have a 28 day cycle, we have tried intercourse before and during ovulation and it has resulted in nothing but frustration
