Food Freezing On Bottom Shelf Of Refrigerator

I 've had this Whirlpool refrigerator/freezer 3 weeks now.  I noticed that food on the bottom shelf of the refrigerator was freezing, even containing ice crystals!  I lowered the temperature by moving the setting from the center snowflake to one less to find if that would help.  Another week has passed.  The ice cream in the feeezer is softer but not too soft.  Unfortunately, some food is still freezing in the refrigerator.  I hate to move the setting to the warmest because the ice cream would then be too soft.  Is there something you would recommend?  Both liquids and solids are feeezing.
