Spin Cycle Does Not Finish

I love my Whirlpool washer and dryer on the second floor. It saves time and effort over the long walk to the basement. However, I have one problem that is very frustrating. With increasing frequency the spin cycle does not finish. Clothing is dripping wet. This forces me to carry wet clothes to my basement washer to remove the excess water. I am careful not to overload the washer. Any ideas?
