Ice Maker Question

We have a style 2 model with the ice bin in the door. The manual on/off switch has a red light in the upper right. This light is on steady when the frezer door is closed and the bin is not full. The light flashes when the freezer door is open or when the the door is closed and the bin is full. I have the "Refrigerator User Instruction" manual in-hand (W10316634A). The light is pictured on page 7 but there is no mention of is purpose. My wife has tasked me to find out why the light is there and what it means when on steady or flashing. Help!

Go here for a service manual. It could be as simple as replacing the water filter, the manual should cover any problem you're having.
