Red Light Not On Emitter/receiver For Ice Maker.

I noticed the red light that goes from the emitter to the receiver next to the ice maker is no longer on. Could that be the main reason I have no ice. I've read that I would have to change both emitter and receiver, but I want to make sure that could be the problem.
