Can't Connect Viewpad7 To Iphone Acting As A Hotspot. Is In Wifi List But No Go

I set the iphone to personal hot spot. That works fine for my laptop so I know it works. But the viewpad 7 sees the iphone in the wi fi services list but wont connect. As it as remembered and tries to connect. but then times out and reverts to 'not in range'. the viewpad can connect to my broadband router okay (and openzone acces points). Is there something about the iphone hotspot wi fi service that viewpad does not like even though my PC is okay with it?
