If I Miss A Flight, Can I Take Another Flight The Same Day

I have a verry early flight from IAD to SEA. Traffice in DC cna come to a stop - for hours. If I miss my flight can I fly later the same day if seats are available. Will there be an incresed cost?

If the delay is caused by another airline they will pay for a new flight if you missed it, but if you slept in, you will have to buy a new flight. That is at least the standards, but I am not sure if every airline goes by that rule. United and American usually do. I will try to dig in to this deeper.
