Message On Ans Mach Says Not Set Up. Followed Instr. Unpluged No Return To Defa

D1483/D1484 followed manual had a recorded greeting played back on both hand set and base. However when calling number the machine picks up with this customer did not set up for messages. Help? I even unplugged from both power and service in an an attemp when reconnecting to go to default but no such luck.
