What Is Wrong With The Car If You Can Not Shift The Car Out Of The P Position

The brake switch is the usual culprit. You have to press the brake to move it out of park. The sensor unit that knows you have pressed the brakes tells the brake lights to come on as well as tell the transmission to disengage the safety lock-out. When it goes out you cant take it out of park.

Check and see if your brake lights work. It will tell you if this is whats wrong or not.

 btw, the 2009 camry had a recall on this. I didnt find it listed for 2011 models but it may be worth contacting a dealership and asking about. They could tell you.
