'no Valid Disc' Message On Toshiba Sdp93swn Portable Dvd Player

When I insert a DVD I get a "No Valid Disc" message. I have tried multiple DVD's but get the same message.

Found it at a yard sell for $5.00. Loading....No Valid Disc ...I had a slightly different variation on the same problem. Holding down the Mode key, turning 'On' and 'Off' then mode button, was doing nothing. I even hit it bottom. Tried this many times. But I also wasn't getting the chainsaw noise (it's loud when you get it) Then I tried sliding the laser eye to the center (gently). As it was up close to the middle wheel like it is suppose to be. This caused the machine when I turned it on and pressed mode twice and held down the Mode button to make a very loud noise. Had to turn it off to stop it (after a good 5 seconds). Put a disc in and it loaded after holding the mode button down one more time. Bingo! It plays all my DVD's and MP3's !! Many thanks
