Dvd / Vcr Shuts Off When Dvd Tray Closes

Model se-r0086 The tray had been stuck shut till I pinched it to the right. My Mother has been in the "bad" habit ( IMO ) of closing the tray by pushing it, rather than pressing the button and waiting for it to close.
