Compatible Dvd's For Dvr620ku

The box says, "muti-format recording to DVD -R/RW and DVD +R/RW" However, on page 34 of the owners manual it says, "This unit cannot record to CD-RW or CD-R." Which is true?!! Can you record to DVD -R and DVD -RW or not. If so, how?
