Do I Need To Replace The Lamp?

I have several white dots that look like Christmas lights on my screen. They are multiplying. Do I need to replace the lamp?

this is caused by a bad DLP chip: http://www.shopjimmy.com/samsung-mitsubishi-toshiba-4719-001997-dlp-chip.htm

To replace it and align it is tricky and time consuming. A shop will likely charge $250-$300 labor to replace it (plus part), if you take it to them.

Some people replace the entire optical engine since it replaces the color wheel too (these goes bad too and there is no other way to replace it since it's not available separately), it includes a DMD board and ballast too. Everything but the Lamp, and much easier to replace for a handy consumer, but it appears to be on factory back order (does appear to be still available): http://www.encompassparts.com/item/7199291/Toshiba/75006693/Optical_Block,_95.

i think it's more a problem with the engine block not the lamp
