simply put the set up on a table to access the lower rear back cover. You will need a flashlight, a #2 Philips screw driver (a short handled one is helpful on a couple screws), and a wire cutter to cut some wire ties. Maybe a camera to take pictures of each step to ensure you remember how the wires are routed and a empty egg carton to separate the screws into different stages.

Here is a couple things to keep in mind: You need to remove the lamp doo to get the back cover on and off. There is a plastic cover over the top of the optical engine that minimizes the dust from getting on the lens assembly that needs to be removed before the engine can be slid out. There are wires that connect between the optical engine and the signal cluster. The signal cluster needs to be slid out a bit to allow the wires to be accessed (keep in mind where they hook up). There is a wire that goes over to the lamp door interlock switch, these two wires can be cut and twisted together (black tape the ends) but remember to reinstall the lamp door when operating the set. There are stantions on the back corners that can be removed, the top may bounce a little when they are removed. And finally there is a very delicate connector, hooking to the DMD board (the circuit board clad in metal shields on the optical engine), that you have to squeeze the metal tabs on both end to release.

I would wait to get the new part before taking it out, that way you have a part in your hand to see what stays and what is swapped out.
