You will need to remove the muffler in order to inspect the piston for scoring. Chances are, you have 8mm nuts securing the muffler to removable studs. Remove these and slide the studs sideways out of their retaining slots. You should see the piston through the opening of the exhaust port. If there is any vertical burning/scoring, I'm afraid your cylinder and piston are no good and you will need to replace them, which in many cases, approaches the cost of a new saw. This is a common occurance where people will run too lean, (more fuel than lubricating oil,) of a fuel/oil mix in the machine, and especially with a machine like a chainsaw under high stress and high RPMs, it's easy to destroy the top end of your engine quickly. Make sure you use only STIHL brand oils and a high quality, brand name fuel in your machines, and you will have no problems for many years to come. Also, rememer to start your machine, and drain the fuel before storage of over 3 weeks and allow it to idle until it shuts off, to prevent a buildup of corrosive white powder and gummy fuel inside of the carburetor and a costly repair!
