Getting Someone To The Parking Lot.

My sister is flying into RDU June 5, 2013 on Flt. 2605. She doesn't fly and she just lost her husband. I will drive 3 hours to pick her up. I do not know RDU and I am afraid I will have trouble getting to the gate. I have leukemia and the drive will make me very tired. I don't know if there is curbside parking or short-term parking. If I had the gate number maybe I can find my way to the correct gate to meet her. Can you advise me what to do so I can meet her on time. Thanks.

It would be much easier for both of you to either meet outside the secured area (the area where travelers go through security before boarding flights) OR meet at baggage claim. It's difficult, but not impossible, to get permission to walk through security and meet someone at the gate without having a boarding pass/airline ticket.

If you're not sure where the secured area begins, signs should be posted with directions to the airline gates and there will be a sign at the security area stating only passengers with a boarding pass or airline ticekt are permitted beyond that point. She will exit from that area after she gets off airplane.

You can always ask directions from an airport official if it's confusing.

As far as parking, you will have to park in a short term parking lot. There is no curbside parking allowed. Hopefully you have access to handicapped parking spaces which will help lessen your walk to the terminal.
