Sony Mhc-gx8800 Cd Shelf Does Not Eject

I have an older Sony MHC-GX8800 hifi system, with amazing sound and bass. The system as a whole is in good shape. However, the CD shelf does nothing when I try to eject the discs,or swap discs. If I hit play, the system seems to work fine.Has anyone else had the same issue, and is there a fix for it? I would hate to let go of this beautiful music system.

The only reference to the tray not opening is under CD player on page 31.
