Sony has a thing that blanks the video until the picture tube is warmed up and the red, green, and blue guns (inside the tube) are aligned. Knowing this will allow the customer to see the best picture possible. This works just great until the tube becomes aged and one of the guns falls out of adjustable range. Then the blinking indicator will last longer and longer until it hits the point where it fails to stop blinking and unblock the video.
This is a perfect opportunity to update your electronics. A technician might be able to do a screen voltage adjustment to allow the tube to still perform, but this is only going to last a short time before it's back (1 week to 3 months likely)
