Bobbin Problem
I have a singer sew mate 5400. The top thread will not pick up the bottom thread. After further inspection, I see that after removing the bobbin case that the part that sits next to the removable part of the bobbin case is not turning. I can turn it with my finger easily, it shouldn't be that way. I cannot get the sewing machine case apart. How can I get into it to check the back of the bobbin case?? Thank

How do you adjust the tension on a Singer Sew Mate?
Place a small screwdriver on the head of the screw on the side of the bobbin case. Turn very slightly clockwise to increase the tension on the Singer bobbin. Turn slightly counterclockwise to decrease the bobbin tension.

The dial settings run from 0 to 9, so 4.5 is generally the 'default' position for normal straight-stitch sewing. This should be suitable for most fabrics. If you are doing a zig-zag stitch, or another stitch that has width, then you may find that the bobbin thread is pulled through to the top.
