this is usually because the back lights behind the LCD display aren't lit so you cannot see the video that's there (black screen).
If the panel lights up when first turned on then goes black then suspect one of the three inverter boards or one of the florescent lamps have failed. If it never shows a picture then suspect the power board.
take it to a technician to get an estimate.
