What Does Error Code U2-40 Mean

U2-40 is a chip communication error. It may be something as simple as a loose or disconnected connector, or it could be a faulty circuit board.

U2-40 means the countdown (CRUM) chip in your toner cartridge either broke or went to zero. If you can put in a fresh CRUM chip in your cartridge, that's great, otherwise you'll have to replace the toner cartridge.
This message can also occur when the CRUM chip located on the back of the toner cartridge is defective. Simply remove the toner cartridge from the copier and inspect the back end of it....the little small plastic piece with the brass pcb looking connectors is the item I am talking about. If this appears damaged or loose it will not seat completely once it is slid into the copier in the female connector on the back side of the copier frame. If removing the toner cartridge and reinstalling it does NOT fix this problem.....then remove the OLD CRUM chip off the empty toner cartridge by gently prying it off and reinstalling it on the toner cartridge this is giving you this error code. If this does not resolve your problem then take the toner cartridge back to where you purchased it from and tell them it needs to be replaced due to the error code it is giving you
