Ice Maker Chute Noise

My ice maker chute on my fridge Samsung RF28HFEDBSR/AA makes a horrible noise when dispensing ice. It appears like the chute might get stuck when opening/closing. Any solutions. Out of warranty of course.

I have a samsung frige (model # RF263AEBP) that has the french doors on top and the freezer on the bottom. It sounds like we have the same unit. 3 weeks ago I had the same thing happen to me. This frige was bought NEW in July of 2010. Paid a fortune for it. This is what is happening:

Week one: sounds like the fan has become a mini genorater and is making an annoying sound that cuts off when you open the doors and will kick back on a couple seconds after shutting the door. It also cuts off when the cooling cycle is done (when your unit is at the set temp you keep it at).

Week two: Fan stopped working, sound went away....and then the unit stop cooling.

Week three: found out that the WHOLE back end of the unit behind the fan was a block of ICE.

Your fan is hitting ICE. Do yourself a big favor and unplug the unit. Save what you can... but what happens is that the ICE builds up and you are forced to manually thaw out your unit. I lost so much food and we are just finishing up the manual defrost. The middle panel in your frige where you see the Twin cooling circle should come off easy. If ICE is formed, the whole metal coil is a big block of ICE and you can't pry the panel off without breaking it.

Now that our unit is thawed and the ice is melted, we need to check to see if the fan is still working because the ICE could have damaged the motor. Save your frige and money. Remove everything from the unit (frige & freezer) and unplug it for 24 hours. Clean out the frige, remove the water puddles, and I would also remove the panel and dry what water you can get to and then put it all back into place and plug it in.
