I Have This Unit And It Turns On And Off By Itself.

I've had this unit since Aug. 2008 and it's sat in my shop most of this time without use. I bought it to keep cool when hurricanes come and we lose power. I would run it off a generator. I hasn't been used but a handful of times. I recently installed it in my bedroom and use it now and then. It has recently began to turn on and off on it's own. I've unplugged it for hours hoping to reset it but it still does it. It's random tough and of course I don't know how many times it's done it when we're not home. Any suggestions on what it could be?

This msy be what's known as short cycling. The usual cause of such short-cycling is that the cooling power of the unit is too great for the area being cooled. There are other causes--see https://inspectapedia.com/aircond/Air_Conditioner_Short_Cycling.php
