If you are able to dismantle the unit then it is a simple task of cutting off the broken section of the wire inside the handle. It is usually the entry point section. Then reconnecting to the switch and the repair should be complete. Take photos on your mobile as you take the unit apart to aid re-assembly.

That should solve your problem and stops more items going into the ground.
