Fuel Line Routing And Carb Gasket Replacement

1) I was having trouble getting it to start and stay running. Figured out that the purge bulb had a small crack in it. Bought a replacement. Started taking everything apart and also found one of the fuel lines had a small split in it also, so I bought new fuel line to just replace them all. I would like to know the correct routing to make sure I did it right. I didn't take pictures, my bad. 2) since I had almost everything apart, I thought I'd take off the carb and clean it. While putting it back together, I tore the back gasket. So I ordered both the back and front mounting gaskets from Ryobi. Neither one I got look anything like the originals. One is like a big rectangle and the other is kinda egg shaped. The second one, lines up with all the holes on the back side of the carb good. But when I line up the rectangle one, all the holes line up, except that the bottom right corner of the gasket hit the choke butterfly lever, so it won't lay flat against the carb face. I had a horrible time getting with Ryobi just trying to reach and talk to a human, I want to find out whether it's the right gasket and can I just trim it or try finding gaskets that look like the originals. That's why I'm contacting anyone here that might give me some insight on my issues without dealing with Ryobi again. I can't find any legible diagrams or helpful videos yet for either issue, gas lines or carb gaskets.Sorry I couldn't really make this a long story short. I really hope someone can give me some guidance. Thanks for the time, Mike Lawrence

Which fuel nipple is for supplying fuel to the carb, the straight one on the left side of the carb or the curved one on the right side of the carb? Also, you said the fuel line from the purge bulb to the spark plug. Did you mean to run it back to the fuel tank as the fuel return?

I understand your frustration. It can be difficult to find the right information when you're trying to fix a problem with your Ryobi RY3716. I'll do my best to help you out.

Fuel line routing

The fuel line routing for the Ryobi RY3716 is as follows:

  1. The fuel line runs from the fuel tank to the carburetor.
  2. The fuel line then runs from the carburetor to the primer bulb.
  3. The fuel line then runs from the primer bulb to the spark plug.

The fuel line should be routed so that it does not kink or get pinched. It should also be routed away from hot surfaces.

Carb gaskets

The Ryobi RY3716 uses two carb gaskets: a front gasket and a back gasket. The front gasket is a round gasket that seals the carburetor to the engine. The back gasket is a rectangular gasket that seals the carburetor to the air filter housing.

The gaskets that you ordered from Ryobi should be the correct size and shape for your chainsaw. If the rectangle gasket is hitting the choke butterfly lever, you can try trimming it so that it fits. However, if the gasket is still not laying flat against the carb face, you may need to order a different gasket.
