On the C6501, each developer unit (black, cyan, magenta, yellow) has its own TD sensor. The sensor sits near the bottom of the developer unit and connects to a wire that runs to the back of the unit.
In order to get to the TD sensors, you need to remove quite a few parts -- mainly the toner bank and the PCU/developer face plate.
