You can control volume and mute from the in-line module on the cord. One side has the silver slider for muting / unmuting the microphone. The other side has 1) three dots and a scrolling wheel to control what you hear (speaker) and 2) microphone with two dots and a switch to control how loud you sound to others. Remember that the controls only adjust the volume the phone puts out, it will not go any higher.
