Pioneer Pure Cinema Progressive Xv-htd540
I just purchased a used pioneer pure cinema progressive model number xv-htd540. It came with the unit, left, right and center speakers and no remote. The dvd picture is there but I am getting no sound, from neither the speakers or the headphone jack. There is an icon of two speakers and a subwoofer on the right side of the unit LCD sceen. When I attach speakers to the head phone jack the icon disappears, but im still getting no sound! What's going on? Do I need the remote to get sound, or should I just go get my money back? Please help?

I had this same issue as I was moving into my new apartment. The trick is to set up the hardware to ensure that all items are plugged in correctly (i.e. audio outputs via red, yellow, white cables as well as the direct lines from speakers/subs to the pioneer unit). Once you've established that you have all the hardware audio inputs correct then use the accompanying remote to ensure the right surround sound feature on. You may have to change to Line 1 or 2 depending on your settings. All in all, the problem I originally had was that sound for me was coming only out of a select number of speakers. When I used the remote to select Full Surround via the "surround" button on the remote it quickly remedied the issue. I could not find a button or set of options on the unit itself to do this. Hope this helps!
