Pfaff Tiptronic 2020 The Reverse Button Does Not Work

Hi,

On my machine there was a little plastic clip broken that holds down the logic switch circuit board. I used pliers and paperclip to manufacture a little hook that holds down the circuit board. You could also use epoxy to glue the circuit board to the chassis so it does not flex when pressing the switch.

Also the grey button can be cut inside with a knife a little from the strengthening webs so they wont hit the logic switch edges (Poor design, when the button moves to side it causes the edge of strengthening web to hit the logic switch small plastic towers and won't properly engage the switch when worn). Don't cut on the middle. You'll see the marks on the web surfaces where it has touched the edges since they are shiny. just leave 3-4mm material untouched on the middle cross part that hits the button on circuit board.

The logic switch on the little board is just plain normal size and can be changed with a normal soldering procedure and bought from any normal electronics store... Part costs about 10 cents.. size is approx total height 4.2mm, body height 3.2mm. width of the body 6.3mm, legs separation 4,2x6,3mm and the legs that are on the 6,3mm side are connected together. the switch has 4 legs.

So, don't know how the repair dude justifies for not repairing it.. Other than that you have to take all parts apart from the chassis..it is the last panel (front) that you have to get out to get to the attachment screw that holds down the switch board and also to do any repairs..so not for total beginners maybe. Also you can find pfaff tiptronic 2010-2040 repair manual in russian language with google and translate it online for free using robots to get an english version.

Here are the pics. I warmed up the paperclip end with a lighter and pushed it thru the strenghtening web to make a hole for it. Other end sits under the screw/metal that is used to guide the thread.. :)

When I took mine in for repair for the same problem (no reverse) the technician stated the "contact point" was bad. Meaning when you press the button for reverse, a poor connection is made (or no connection is made) to tell the machine to reverse. He said he was unable to fix it and a replacing it was too expensive and not worth it. Consequently, I am unable to program the length of buttonholes and am regulated to the preset lengths only! Bummer as I need a long one for my current project and am stumped.
