Panasonicdvd-lx97 Purchased 2006. Was Working Till Unplugged Several Months Ago-
will a new battery pack help to use again? CGR-H71

The battery has most probably gone completely flat. If you connect the power supply and leave the unit switched off it should recover if left overnight. If the unit comes on, then run the battery down again and allow 30 mins to cool after that. Then fully recharge again and that should restore the battery. If that fails then a new battery may be required but try that first.
