I am a former Oracle employee, and both a past and current customer, with experience spanning more than 25 years. I can tell you, their support organization sometimes has good people, and sometimes not, but their global support coverage is excellent. There have been several occasions over the years that I have had issues that Oracle Support had never before encountered, or more typically have no way to reproduce - and I have had to reason out the fix for myself. The vast majority of the times that I have contacted support, though, I have found issues and resolutions available and well-documented, because usually someone else has already run into the problem, or a problem that was caused by another vendor was fixed by Oracle Support (yes, that actually happens when those other vendors roll out defective patches).
Overall, I have found that having a pleasant, non-aggressive attitude when contacting support (not just for Oracle), goes a long way towards the rep going above and beyond the call of duty to help with problems.
