My Olympus Vr-340 Will Not Take Pictures. It Says 'write Protect' On The Screen

I realized that I had not flipped he switch on the SD Card. I have downloaded the video, flipped the switch and tried to erase what I had on there, but will not let me erase the video off the card. It continues to show Write Protect on screen. Do not understand why it won't let me take anymore pictures even if it is write protect....the card is not full. How do I get rid of that and use my new camera again. Kind of sorry I bought it, doesn't take as nice a picure as my Sony. I hate to get rid of the card and have no other one to use. I paid a lot of money for this 16 GB card.
