1997 Nissan Quest Stalls When I Press The Accelerator Pedal.

When I crank the van it idles fine, but when I try to quickly raise the engine the RPMs goes down and if I don't release it, the engine will stall. What is the possible causes? This problem got worst after I replaced the fuel filter. Thanks

Just a guess here, but I'd replace the throttle position sensor (TPS). It may be defective and unable to read the throttle position correctly. It's located on the throttle body. Should be easy to reach and remove.

They do get very dirty, so you could try to clean it by spraying carb cleaner into the throttle body. Do it while the car is running, but be careful! Carb cleaner is very flammable. The idle speed will go way down as you spray it. Just spray it in short spurts so it doesn't stall the engine.

You could also remove it from the throttle body and clean it that way. It is a delicate part, so take it easy when you clean the sensor.

The only reason I would try to clean it up first is the cost of a new one. They are $57 at Auto Zone and that may not even be your problem. Good luck!
