Charging My Nikon P510 Camera
my charger is connected to the mains and the camera however there is nothing lighting up on the camera, is this normal?

No, this is not normal because the charging light indicator of the camera must be lit up ussually in flashing red or orange color. If there is no light in the battery indicator, it means that there is no power being fed to the battery. Please check the connections of your charger as well as the battery of your camera.
