Ask the consumer to explain how and when the symptom is observed; then try to duplicate the symptom as described by the consumer. If the symptom could not be duplicated as described by the consumer; then try the steps below:
1. For GSM/CDMA phones verify that the SIM/RUIM card fits well in the phone SIM slot ? If the SIM/RUIM card is loose; re-insert the SIM/RUIM card and perform a Master Reset or reload/upgrade the software. If the phone still does not get service accept the phone for in warranty repair
2. For GSM/CDMA phones verify that the pins on the SIM/RUIM slot is not bent or deformed ? If the pins on the SIM/RUIM slot are bent or deformed accept the phone for in warranty repair
3. Use the phone menu to verify whether the flight or airplane mode is set to On. If yes, switch the flight or airplane mode to Off.
4. Use the phone menu to verify that the band setting is not correct (for GSM). If band is not correct change to the correct band setting.
5. Is the phone software locked to a SIM/RUIM card ? If yes, ask consumer for original SIM card then perform a Master Reset or reload/upgrade the software. If the phone still does not get service accept the phone for in warranty repair.
6. Is the carrier adjusting the network settings ? If yes return the phone to the consumer, and direct the consumer to the carrier
