The Motorola i1 is an iDen phone meaning that it uses a different technology from other GSM carriers like AT&T or T-Mobile. Even though it uses a SIM card iDEN phones cannot be unlocked. Each phone is programmed to work with specific carriers. The only exception is using a Boost Mobile SIM card in a Nextel programmed phone. In this specific case, it will work without a subsidy code.
