My 2005 Mercury Mariner Is Showing I'm Only Getn 9mpg. Why?

Outside of the fact that the display might just be reading wrong, Gas mileage can usually be increased by perfoming a routine tune up. This could include spark plugs, fuel filter, oil change, air filter, tire pressure etc.

Other more costly factors that can contribute to gas mileage are things like worn valves, piston rings, low compression, catalytic converter, and valve guides
