Auto Trans Gear Shift '97 Cougar

I am having starting issues on my Cougar, and am checking out various things. One of the areas was the floor gear shifter inside the car. Well, I dismantled it and have one "item" that I can't figure out where it goes. I've checked for exploded views, have an owners manual and a Chilton repair book. When I was taking it apart, I was careless and now a wired plastic strip with semi-prongs at the end and copper sections that are spaced out. It is 5-6" long. Anyone know what it is or where it goes?

This one is the most difficult one, your best move is to visit your local dealer for assistance.
