what type of engine does mercury sable 1996 station wagon has v6-182 3.0 L dohv or v6-182 3.0 L ohv

Check the 8th character in the vehicle identification number (VIN). The VIN is located on the driver's side, in the lower right corner of the dashboard (looking in from the outside).

If the 8th character is the letter "S", you have the double overhead valve (DOHV) engine. If the letter is a "U", you have the single OHV engine. 

A simple way to check is to look at the intake manifold on top of the engine. Most vehicles that have a DOHV will have those letters stamped (embossed) on top of the intake.

LS trim has the 3.0L 200 hp V6 engine and the GS trim has the 3.0L 145 hp V6 engine.
