Tire And Rim Recommendations.

In people's experience what tires perform best?  Can they go to 17" without modifying the suspension?  I just saw a heavilly modified '02 Miata that had the type of rims I am planning on getting & they were 17", but it appeared quite a bit of work done on it, body kit, all kinds of things, not all listed, so I wasn't sure.  I'm thinking Yokohamas AS430s, with either 1-V Line - Comet V716 Matte Black w/ machined spokes, Maxxim / Ferris / Black Machine face or Touren TR3 Black w/ Machine face.  I think the gun metal black background w/ the metalic machined face will look good on my all black Miata w/ hardtop and tinted windows.
