If it's brand new, as you say, then it's under warranty and could also be returned to the seller. Your first action should be to call Maytag: use the contact information here--https://www.contacthelp.com/maytag/customer-service. The rep will tell you if it's in fact defective; if so you can decide on either one of the two courses. If not, the rep will explain why it's not a problem.
